Meditation

Meditation is the intentional stopping of the spontaneous activity of the mind or "mental fasting". By withdrawing all distracting thoughts and disturbing emotions, the Ming is purified while the primal powers of the Spirit are restored.

Meditation cultivates a relaxed state of mind that is calming and rejeuvenating. It promotes emotional serenity and mental clarity. Through daily practice, the meditator learns to apply these fruits of meditation to his or her spiritual life, daily activities, and relationships.

Chan Meditation

Chan is a particular form of Buddhism and a complete system of meditation developed in China 2500 years ago. Classes on Chan meditation include instruction on methods of sitting, walking, and sleeping, as well as deep breathing and controlled breath techniques. More advanced levels include tendon stretching, Tao Lin energy cultivation, self-massage, and philisophical discussions concerning theories, practices, and common obstacles encountered in meditation for the development of conciousness toward enlightenment.
